Objective: The NAUI Instructor Training Course is designed to train and qualify NAUI Instructor Members. This program builds on the prerequisite programs to prepare a SCUBA Instructor to provide knowledge and skill development to entry level divers.
Course Duration: nine days minimum

Prerequisites:
1. 18 years of ages or older
2. At least one year of diving experience since entry level certification
3. Medical exam with physician’s approval. The medical exam must be
for SCUBA diving and completed less than one year prior to the beginning of
the course.
4. Statement of Understanding/Waiver & Release completed and signed.
5. Current NAUI /ASHI First Aid , CPR & Oxygen Provider or equivalent
6. Be a currently certified NAUI Assistant Instructor or Divemaster, or a
NAUI PREP Course Graduate within the past 12 months.
7. To enter Instructor training, Instructor candidates are required to have
a minimum of 50 logged dives since entry level certification. The 50 prerequisite
dives must include at least 5 categories from the list below:
a. 10 dives to greater than 80 feet.
b. 10 dives utilizing full wet suit including hood and gloves or dry suit.
c. 10 dives using minimal thermal protection, i.e. dive skin or shorty.
d. 10 dives at night.
e. 10 low visibility dives (less than 3 feet visibility.)
f. 10 fresh water dives.
g. 10 salt water dives.
h. 10 dives in surf, drift or current conditions.
8. To be considered for any NAUI SCUBA Program Leadership certification, the
candidate/student must not have any standards violations or have been dismissed
from the NAUI SCUBA Program or any other SCUBA certification agency.

Candidate Oral Classroom Presentations:
Six classroom lectures assigned by the director during the institute.
One 30-minute formal classroom lecture complete with visual aids.
Candidate Pool/Confined Water Skill Presentations:
One confined water briefing
Three entry level pool/confined water skill presentations.
Perform the 7 pool/confined water skills as defined in the NAUI SCUBA Leadership
Manual
Open Water Requirements:
Two open water briefings
Two open water de-briefings
Three graded open water presentations
During the ITC the following open water instructor skills will be evaluated
(See the Institute Standards and Procedures Manual for details):
a. Awareness of students.
b. Ability to help students feel relaxed.
c. Control of class.
d. Pre-dive plan and briefing
e. Debriefing of dive.
f. Safety consciousness.
g. Reaction to emergencies.
h. Attitude.
i. Ability to evaluate an open water student’s performance of open water
skills.
j. Problem solving for at least 3 open water skills.
k. Complete a simulated open water rescue and implementation of emergency
plan
Written Exams – There are 10 written exams consisting of on environment,
equipment, rescue, medical, physics, decompression, legal, business, NAUI
and teaching.
Review Board: Counseling and final outcome of program - if successful, a Certificate
is issued.

Upon successful Completion of the NAUI Instructor Course: The Student will be Qualified as a NAUI SCUBA Instructor and be able to teach NAUI diving programs including :Snorkeling, Skin Diving, SCUBA Diving, Advanced Diving, Master Scuba Diver, Night Diver, Underwater Environment, Underwater Photographer, Search and Recovery, Hunter and Collector, Wreck Diver (external survey), Deep Diver and Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and Skin Diving Instructor
